Demo at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024

The OAI gNB SA FR2 at 28 GHz Prototype with COTS UEs demo was developed in the context of CONVERGE project and showcases a prototype of OAI 5G SA (standalone) in frequency range 2 (FR2, mmWave). The gNB OAI supports the split into O-RU, O-DU, O-CU-CP, and O-CU-UP. More specifically, the InterDigital RU is connected via a National Instrument USRP NI X410 to the OAI stack, the OAI 5GC is deployed on the RedHat OpenShift Container Platform. Tests were conducted using 100 MHz bandwidth, SCS 120kHz, and a TDD period of 1.25 ms  slot format, and against the user unit of Quectel RM530F. This reference implementation creates the opportunity for research and testing in FR2 with a wide range of commercial FR2 UEs (when they become available in the market) and off the shelf radio units. It is deployed in the context of the SLICES-RI infrastructure in Sophia Antipolis in France and used to demonstrate innovative next-generation use-cases exploiting vision in radio-networks leveraging technologies such integrated communications, sensing and RIS. The CONVERGE project seeks to develop an innovative toolset that combines radio, vision-based communications and sensing technologies to enable new research areas under the motto “view to communicate and communicate to view”.
